Meet the Seller
Started by Ryan and Lindsay, RNZY specializes in offering affordable, premium sports and fashion apparel.
Operating out of their basement in Maine, RNZY has grown into a nine-person team with sourcing contractors across the country. Today, they’re scaling at a pace once unimaginable: with over $1.9M in sales last year alone.
Prior to Whatnot
They started out reselling thrifted shoes on Poshmark and Facebook—manually cleaning and restoring them to create sellable inventory.
Their affordable product helped them establish a loyal customer base who appreciated unique, used sneakers.
Restoring footwear by hand was labor-intensive and turnover could be slow—some pairs often taking months to sell.
When considering Whatnot
They worried that items might sell for less than on Poshmark, reducing margins if prices dropped too low.
They weren’t sure how to compete with the top sellers already drawing 1,000+ viewers into shows.
Having to manually clean and restore shoes meant that it would be hard to scale their inventory quickly.
“Any home, any apartment in America can do over a million dollars a year on Whatnot with the system we use.”
- Ryan, Co-Founder, RNZY
Growing on Whatnot
RNZY’s first shows were a turning point. They discovered that sales velocity—not just margins—was the unlock.
Sales velocity jumped from months to minutes after joining.
Shifting from used shoes to new outlet apparel helped them secure consistent supply.
They moved from $1 auctions to sustainable start prices ($39–$59).
Leveraged Whatnot’s tools and built a recognition system for loyal buyers.
“The velocity was a massive unlock for us. We might make less per pair, and sometimes even a loss, but we sell so much more that we actually make much more profit.”
- Ryan, Co-Founder, RNZY
The Result
They made $1.9M in sales last year from fewer than 10 sourcing locations.
Their two-person operation has grown to nine team members plus a nationwide sourcing network.
They’ve started training additional hosts to expand live-selling hours.
They treat streams like a retail floor: they sell inventory the day it comes in and ship the next day.
“One of the most common things people do is compare their day one to someone else’s day 1,000. We had to start somewhere—and now we’ve streamed over 2000 hours.”
