Meet the Seller
Since 2019 Laura and Dusty had been buying, breaking down, and flipping pallets at garage sales.
After discovering Whatnot in 2023, their business has transformed into three individual shops and 32 employees—generating over $250K per month on Whatnot.
Prior to Whatnot
They’d found success in buying pallets, breaking them down and selling them across eBay and garage sales, but found that the quality of stock could be inconsistent and unreliable—leading to “dry spells” and issues with cash flow.
B.
Their ‘drop’ model limited sales to set times, outside of this they had to wait for customers to find them.
Unsold stock often sat for long periods of time before being purchased.
“It's still early days for Live Shopping and the people that will benefit the most are the ones that are building something now.”
- Harrison, The Dons Luxury
Whatnot Considerations
Harrison saw Whatnot's potential long before joining after watching another seller go live—he remembers is as “like selling on steroids”.
They worried demand for high-end luxury items, would be low, meaning they wouldn’t get profitable prices.
Managing other platforms at the same time meant that launching on Whatnot would stretch time and resources.
They thought it could be a great way to liquidate old inventory, knowing if a buyer got a good deal they’d come back.
"Early on, we took a $40 loss on a Louis Vuitton wallet, but guess what? Those buyers are now spending six figures with us every single year."
- Caitlin, The Dons Luxury
They launched with $1 auctions to build awareness and sales momentum.
Some of their earliest buyers have gone on to spend hundreds of thousands, tuning into shows every week.
They began integrating high-end ‘grails’ as their audience grew, and now sell Chanel and Hermes daily, fetching $10k+ in seconds.
They’ve expanded into an 8,500-sq-ft showroom with 5 live-stream sets and 12 employees.
They pride themselves on maintaining high energy and deep connection to their buyers: "you get the same Caitlin and Harrison every single show".
Growing on Whatnot
"Early on, we took a $40 loss on a Louis Vuitton wallet, but guess what? Those buyers are now spending six figures with us every single year."
- Caitlin, The Dons Luxury
"Being genuine and treating people right is definitely my biggest advice for anybody starting.”
