Meet the Seller

Jeremy and Logan founded Onthegrill, a sports card breaking business in St. Augustine, Florida, in April 2025.

They’ve earned their spot as a community favorite by specializing in high-end wax breaks and running professional, lively shows directly from home.

Prior to Whatnot

  • They’d previously launched a vintage clothing store while at college in 2019, focusing on curation of higher-priced, slower-moving product.

  • Through this, they learned the importance of good-quality, professional presentation when selling premium product.

  • As they were focusing on growing their clothing business they discovered Whatnot, initially thinking it might be a good platform to expand their business on.

“I'm surprised about how quickly we’ve grown, to be honest with you. I didn't think we'd be here at this point.”

- Logan, Co-Founder, Onthegrill

When considering Whatnot

  • Given their clothing brand and home-based setup, they didn’t see Whatnot as a good fit—so they launched a card business instead, drawing on a childhood hobby to test the platform.

  • Not having a brick-and-mortar store meant they couldn’t get allocation from distributors, meaning they’d have to work hard to source it from online drops, marketplaces, and other distributors.

  • Launching a new business on Whatnot felt risky, but they treated it as a calculated bet—investing $3000 in inventory to get started.

  • For their first live, they’d invest in quality cards and a professional OBS-powered setup, aiming to draw an audience and at least break even.

  • Launching with zero followers, they expected early streams to be slow but focused on consistency—scheduling back-to-back shows through their first week to build momentum.

“We invested $3000 to get started, kept reinvesting so we could keep building—last month we did over $250k”.

- Logan, Co-founder, Onthegrill

  • They quickly committed to 8-hour streams daily—building sales to $250k+ a month within four months.

  • They reinvested profits for months before paying themselves, ensuring sustainable long-term growth.

  • Their setup evolved into a professional backdrop with large flame-filled screens for visual impact and recognizability.

  • Adopting a $1 start auction model for random team spots in the break sped things up and let the market determine value.

  • At least half their sales now come from repeat buyers—some of whom tune into their shows every day.

Growing on Whatnot

They knew that if they could continue increase the number of hours they were live for weekly, their sales would grow too.

“We figured the worst case was losing $3,000 and six days of our lives. But if it worked, the upside was huge—last month alone we made $257,000. The payoff for taking that risk was obvious. What was I really going to lose? A week of my time.”
