Meet the Seller
Lebanon Candy & Collectibles is a family-run brick-and-mortar store run by Kevin that sells cards, candy, and collectibles in Lebanon, Ohio.
After initially launching on Whatnot in 2022, Kevin took a year- long break in 2023 before re-joining in 2024, and has since seen consistent growth.
Prior to Whatnot
As one of the few stores that stocked cards in their area, they’d become well known and had a strong community of local buyers.
Hot product releases sold quickly in-store, but less-hyped inventory often sat taking up shelf space.
Despite their strong local following, they recognized the limitations of in-person sales, and knew that live selling was becoming a “big part of the hobby”.
After initially launching on Whatnot in 2022, they took a break from live selling to focus on their brick-and-mortar and local sales.
Kevin continued running breaks on Facebook, but chasing payments and waiting to fill spots was slow and time-consuming.
“On Whatnot, I can go live in an afternoon, run four breaks in four hours, and move through a lot more product. It moves so fast that sometimes we don’t have enough.”
- Kevin, Owner, Lebanoncandy
When considering Whatnot
After being offline for a year, they worried that encouraging their local buyers to join Whatnot might lead them to shop with other sellers.
They also recognized the opportunity to reach a larger pool of buyers nationwide through Whatnot.
Going live felt intimidating—he wasn’t as familiar with the app, and established sellers on Whatnot had advanced camera setups.
Kevin also worried they’d struggle to balance the time commitment of running frequent streams against running the shop day to day—one of the original reasons they had stepped away.
“We’re moving so much more product—we able to get a bigger allocation—that’s more profit in our pockets.”
- Kevin, Owner, Lebanoncandy
Using Whatnot’s Breaks feature helped them go from running two breaks per day on Facebook, to nearly one every hour.
Their audience expanded beyond local buyers to nationwide and even international customers.
Offering local pickup meant people would discover their store through Whatnot and become regular in-store customers.
Higher sales volume on Whatnot unlocked larger allocation from distributors, helping them secure more profitable inventory.
Growing on Whatnot
After rejoining Whatnot, Kevin tapped into the Breaks feature to move inventory faster and secure better allocation from distributors.
“We don’t need to wait on customers to walk through the door anymore. We can just go live on the app, and that product’s gone in seconds.”
